Threading the heddles takes time, and many weavers dislike this part of weaving, but I really like it. I consider the project half done once I get the loom dressed. The actual weaving is the easy part.
New Class Coming Soon!
I have a new class starting in March at Silk Road Textiles on knitting neck down sweaters. You will have your choice of a variety of neck down or top down raglan sweater patterns from Knitting Pure and Simple for men, women or children. Top down raglan sweaters are knit in one piece and require very little finishing. I will teach you about increases and you can choose the type you like best for your sweater. The fit can be customized as you knit as well. The class will be offered as knit-along for you to knit at your own pace and I will be there to guide you. We have three sessions scheduled beginning Sunday, March 10, no class on Easter and we will get back together on April 7 to finish up. So in five weeks, you should have a sweater! If you need advice on choosing a pattern please email me. Silk Road has some wonderful yarns to choose from as well, in fine wools, wool-blends and acrylics. This class is designed as advanced beginner and you must already be comfortable, knitting, purling, casting on and binding off. (If you take the beginning class now, the hat class in February and keep knitting in between, you can be ready for this class in March!)
Learn to Knit: Class begins this week!
Have you ever wanted to learn to knit? Now is your chance! A two-part class on Knit and Purl Basics begins on Friday, February 1 from 12-2 at Silk Road Textiles so you can learn the fundamentals of knitting. In these two classes, I will teach you how to knit, cast on, purl and bind off. Those are the 4 fundamental skills of knitting and once they mastered, you can knit anything! Supplies needed are a ball of worsted weight yarn (wool is recommended) and size 8 straight knitting needles (wood needles are recommended) . Warm Hands
Here is a new pattern I am working on for fingerless gloves to be called Slipcovers. It is knit from the fingers down and has a unique thumb gusset. It is easy to adapt for multiple sizes of hands or different weights of yarn. I can easily knit a pair with less than 50 grams of yarn! Look for a pattern to be released soon….I think i need to find a hand model though.
